This month our theme is Summer!  Even though school has started and the print magazines are putting out their fall issues, I'm still getting summer pictures back and I need inspiration, so  I thought you might, too.  So here are some ideas to get you started.  Remember, if you use any of these ideas, submit your pages and let everyone see what you've done!  Enjoy!

Fireworks! by Jenna Beegle

These fireworks are actually my sister's idea, but I think they are neat.  I used a Medium Star and Medium Snowflake punch, but I would have added a Mini Sun if I had had it.  The only trick is to spread them out in the way that fireworks explode - not a circle, but a n oval or star.  Then, use a white opaque pen to connect them.  I think you could also use glue with micro-glitter to make it more energetic.  Also, you could break this up into sections that would accent your own layout.

Sunflower by Jenna Beegle

Sunflowers are very popular and deservedly so.  They are bright and colorful and come in so many sizes and variations.  That also makes them great for punch art!  For this I used a Jumbo Circle for the center and a Medium Maple Leaf for the petals.  I use a patterned paper for the petals to give more dimension.  Just arrange the petals with the stem end of the leaf under the circle.  I like to make it more free-form, but you can be as precise as you want.  The stem is cut freehand and the leaves are the Jumbo Birch Leaf.

Palm Tree by Jenna Beegle

The palm tree is one of my new favorites.  The brown trunk is cut freehand.  The Top, though, is trimmed from a Jumbo Sun.  You can see how in the sun on the right.  The smaller piece goes down first, then the trunk, then the larger piece on the very top. Be careful to cover the top of the trunk.  It's simple, but I like it better than stickers.

Sailboat by Jenna Beegle

This sailboat is made with a Jumbo House punch and a Jumbo Bell. You can see in the picture how I trimmed the house and the bell to get the usable parts.  I think what makes this one so cute is the patterned paper. Perfect for the park or the bath tub.  I think it would be great tucked in with other vehicles as part of a border or on top of drawn, sponged or paper waves.

Waves by Jenna Beegle

These waves are actually very simple, though the idea of cutting them by hand would make me sick.  You need a Medium Spiral  punch.  I measured even distances on the back of my blue paper, both across and up and down.    Then I punched on each of those places so the spirals are evenly spaced.  Then, you cut from one spiral to the other to leave behind the wave.  I drew a line on the sample where you need to cut.  Basically, you take off the top half of the strip of paper.  Voila, waves.

She Sells Sea Shells Border by Jenna Beegle

What would summer be without the beach?  To make this border, I first drew on the waves with a colored pencils.  These are freehand, but you can use a ruler.      Then, I added the shells.  To make the scallop shells, I used a Jumbo Scalloped Oval punch. which I trimmed as shown in the detail.  Then I drew on lines like a real scallop with a brown pencils and gently bent the shell along those lines with my finger nail so that the piece curved inward like a scallop.  Be sure to do this on a diagonal so that all the folds go to the center bottom.  When I glued these down, I only glued the bottom edge, so I wouldn't loose the dimension.  You could also use pop dots.     For the spiral shells, I punched a dark brown Medium Spiral and a light brown Medium (5/8") Circle.  I glued the spiral on the circle and then cut the circle so that the end of the spiral becomes the edge of the shell. That's it.

Picnic Border by Jenna Beegle

This border is bright and fun, but reminds me of my least favorite part of picnics.  I used a Medium Square punch to make the checked table cloth around the two sides.  (If this were a 2-page spread I would probably only have it on one side and across the entire border.

The ants are made with a Small Strawberry and 1/4" Circle.  The small strawberry is trimmed as shown in the detail to make the abdomen.  The head and thorax are simply the small circles. The I drew on the legs and antennae. When you lay out your ants, be sure some are not entirely on the page and that they move in a loose line the way ants do.  Maybe you could even perch one on top of your title, or have one or two walking around your pictures!  Ants do get everywhere!
