October 1998

All of these cards started with pre-made ivory cards. You can certainly make your own or start with a different color. For some of the designs, though, I prefer ivory to white, so that the bright colors don't overwhelm the design.

In November we'll cover school, fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving ideas.

TREECARD
by Jenna Beegle

This is the simplest card to make. I used a Marvy Medium Christmas tree and spaced them roughly so they covered the page. Then I outlined each tree with pen stitching and added the straight pen stitched lines dividing each tree. If I had a mini star, I might have added it to the top of one tree in the design as a random element.

TREECARD 2
by Jennia Beegle

This card uses a Large tree punch across the bottom of the card. Before I applied the trees though, I cut off a 1/2" strip across the bottom and positioned the trees so that their bottom branches are along the bottom of the card and the trees' bases hang off. It looks very nice when the card is propped up as it might be on a mantle. I drew in the star with a gold opaque pen, but I might not do that again. I think that part is personal taste. It would also save time not to add it.

PICTURECARD
by Jenna Beegle

Christmas cards with photographs are always popular. For this one, I used a slot punch which rounds the corner of the card and creates a slot which holds the photo without adhesive. If you haven't used one of these before, you simply cut the mat 1/2" larger in both directions than your photo. Then, put the corner of the mat into the punch following the guides and punch. Do that for all the corners, then slip the photo in under the tabs. In this case, I cut the mat with Fiskars Victorian scissors and punched 1/16" holes at each bump to brighten it up. After double matting the picture with red, I attached it to the card. I added a Medium Bear with a Small Bow and a Small Tree to soften the whole effect.

HOLLYCARD
by Jenna Beegle

This is a very simple but elegant card. I drew a light circle, 1 1/4"
in diameter, with a compass in the center of the card. Then I simple added the Large Holly punches in the circle so that they have a small overlap. Then, I added the 1/4" circles for berries at each juncture. This also covers the overlaps in case they don't work out perfectly!

DECKLE CARD
By Jenna Beegle

This card is so much more simple than it looks. I cut 1/2" off the end with deckle scissors, and replaced it with cranberry paper underneath. I cut another strip out of the middle and backed it with evergreen paper.
Then I drew a straight evergreen line and added Small Bows and Small Trees.

SNOWMAN CARD
by Jenna Beegle

I really like this very simple card. The white base is simply cut free
hand. The snowman is made with 2 5/8" circles and a 1/2" circle for the head. His arms are cut from Small Suns and his nose id one ray from a small
sun. the hat has been trimmed from a Small Bell. The snow that's falling is made of 1/4" and 1/8" circles, falling more or less randomly.

SNOWCARD
by Jenna Beegle

This card is really quick! I used navy paper to cover the card front, though navy card would simplify the process. Then I scattered Large and Medium Snowflakes across the page. It was quick and dramatic.

CANDLE CARD
by Jenna Beegle

I wanted to do something for Hanukkah and I love the look of candles. Each candle is a Medium Rectangle punch and the flame is drawn on with a
silver opaque pen.

HOUSE CARD
This may be the most elaborate of all of these cards. I cut the top of the card to echo the eaves of the card. I used Seagull scissors to make the snow that hangs from the roof and the window and door. The window panes are Small Squares spaced evenly. I cut the shutters freehand, but I could have
used a Medium Rectangle. I cut the door out freehand. The wreath was made by punching a 5/8" circle with a Large Circle around it. I cheated on the
ornaments by using a white opaque pen and then coloring on top of it with my regular pens.
