Getting Started As a former CMC, I remember getting started was TOUGH! The key chain is a GREAT idea if you have young kids. I always gave my to my son to play with in the check-out line. It kept him amused AND attracted comments. Another idea is to make T-shirts. Take a scrapbook page or create on for the occasion and either scan it yourself into the computer and print it onto a T-shirt if you have the equipment or take it to a Kinkos (expensive) or a T-shirt shop (mine charges $20 for the transfer and shirt) and have the page made into a transfer. Many consultants use the Brag Bag or the checkbook covers sold by Donna Gallagher for cross stickers to personalize can also be made into a mini-scrapbook. Talk to EVERYONE!! If you love what you do and are genuinely interested in sharing with
others, they'll be receptive and listen. Complete the "List of 100" people that
you could introduce to scrapbooking. Make a list of friends, associates from the office,
church members, your kid's friends parents and do not stop until you have 100 people. Then
call them all and invite them to a class. You might consider starting a scrapbooking club. Instead of charging for every
workshop, charge a yearly fee and let people come and crop for free during meetings. they
can use your tools for free. I have met a number of CMCs online who are
planning to use the free/ yearly fee scrapbooking club as a business tool. With more craft
stores and scrapbooking clubs popping up, it is getting harder for them to get people to
pay a fee for a workshop. If you charge a low yearly fee, then at least you know that the
people will be buying supplies from you for the year that they have pre-paid for. Even if
you have the "club" concept, you can charge $5 for the sticker art class in July
or other special classes. Of course, you will have your products available for sale at
each meeting, you might even want to make up some special make and take packages. The
scrapbooking club can allow you some benefits- I know of several local publications here
that will list a club meeting for free. Your local craft store may even let you place your
Scrapbooking Club flyer at their store (mine does) ! So by calling your workshops a
club and having a yearly fee, you may find that you loose a little income but can get a
loyal base clientele started..... |
