Album in a Day
Jennia Hart
How to prepare for an album in a day workshop
Estimated time to complete 3 hours
Supplies needed:
Your photos
Box- a plastic shoe box or sweater box)
8 1/2 x 11 acid free bond paper (available from a stationary supply store)
Pencil
- Decide which album project that you will be working on: a family album, a child's album,
a gift album, a vacation album, etc.
- Sort all the photos that you need for this project in chronological order and include
memorabilia with the photos of the event. As you sort, divide photos into
"sets". A set will include all the photos of a specific event that you intend to
use for the album. Make sure to choose only the very best photos for the album. Plan
enough photos for either a single page or a 2-page spread with room for journalizing.
- Take the photos you have chosen and crop them into shapes that highlight the photos. If
you want you can go ahead and attach photo splits or photo tape to the back of each photo
or you can use tape runner the day of the event.
- Write down the facts of the event, time, date, place, who is in the photo (if you need
to verify this info) on the 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of bond paper using a pencil. Write down a
page tittle if you can think of one. Take a few minutes and write any recollections of the
event. If you need to check with family members to verify event details, now is the time
to do it.
- Think about the theme for the page or album. An album in a day is a good time to try an
album using a color theme throughout the album. If you choose to use special colors in the
album be sure that you have enough paper in those colors. I recommend cutting the paper
into "precut shapes" before the event. (More on pre-cut shapes later.)
- Once you have decided on a theme for the page, you can assemble the necessary supplies
for the page. Gather die cuts and pre-cut paper and attach photo splits or photo tape to
the back, if desired or use tape runner on the day of the event. Place all supplies and
memorabilia with the photos inside the 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of bond paper. Now make a
tri-fold in the bond paper to contain the photos and papers.
- Then place the photo set into your box. Continue this process until you have enough sets
to complete 50 pages/ 25 double page spreads.
Now you are ready for the album in a day workshop.
For those who do not have an album in day workshop available. It consists of
using workshop time to mount the pages that you have set up. Mounting is done quickly and
simply with no elaborate layouts and or special cutting. All mounting paper should be
pre-cut and ready to mount. Use die cuts and stickers instead of time consuming custom cut
mats. After the album is completed go back and add journalizing and pen enhancements.
